No shade if V-Day is your thing, but this Unruly Quaker thinks Valentine’s Day is kinda the WORST.
It can be so dang brutal.
For children, for teens, for adults.
It can bring up so much “stuff,” including but not limited to:
feeling—and/or actually being— excluded
feeling unloved or unlucky in love
not fitting in to whatever norms are norming right now
not having enough money to buy (increasingly fancy, by the way, if you have a child in school you certainly know this) Valentines for children’s entire classrooms
not having people at home who possess the time, money, or wherewithal to meet Valentine’s day expectations
all sorts of sex and romance “shoulds”
and so much more.
So.
My wish for you this Valentine’s Day, and every day, really, is that you find ways to feel as comfortable and beloved as a rescued dog — snuggling, safe and warm, between trustworthy, gentle humans.
Let’s just all be each other’s Pal-entines, yeah?
Let’s all belong to each other.
XOXO
Taco has the look of true bliss.❤️
