This week’s Noodles is in praise of a simple practice of doing something for no particular reason, maybe just to notice stuff more.
I’ve started a daily-ish (no pressure on myself, it’s a gentle practice) sketch journal. I was wondering about a theme … and then decided to heed my 7th grade art teacher’s advice:
“Don’t draw what you think something looks like. Just draw what you see.”
So I’ve started just drawing what I see.
It’s a simple practice of noticing.
Our teacher in the Spiritual Direction and Social Transformation program I’m in recently advised us: “In this program, in life: Do less. Notice more.”
Although technically I guess I could think of a sketchbook as a “doing,” it feels more like a practice of “doing less, noticing more.”
Anyway. Grateful for good teachers through the years who have taught me to notice.
No need to judge, respond, react. Just notice.
What do you notice today?
I notice gratitude in my heart for y’all.
XOXO
