Well hello there, Angelic Troublemakers!
This week allow me to recommend season four of True Detective on HBO Max.
It’s super creepy and disturbing (which I don’t usually love; I am a ‘fraidy cat) and/but it is so, so good.
Both of our main characters show up with full lives and complex stories that we catch glimpses of if we’re paying attention. That’s due to damn good writing by Issa López (this season’s showrunner, writer, and director).
I may be getting weirder as I age, but like previous Noodles recommendation Deadloch, I find parts of this show laugh-out-loud hilarious.
Like Deadloch, I think of this not only as a mystery and an important story about indigenous folks, but also as a rom-com between the two leads.
In this case, the leads are the absolutely magnetic, captivating, Jodie Foster and acting newcomer Kali Reis as Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro.
Go watch it! (I’m a bossy little thing.)
And tell me what you think.
XOXO
P.S. You know who else is magnetic and captivating? Each and every paid subscriber to NFUQ. If you’ve been meaning to become a paid subscriber, now is a great time to do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Even though the show wasn't largely filmed in Alaska they did meet with an Inupiat Advisory Council for accuracy which I can appreciate. We loved it and I hope Issa López does another season.
It is creepy, which I generally avoid. The acting however, is so GOOD.
